Dr. Pamela Henderson, Medical Director, CLR, LSO
Dr. Pamela Henderson is the Lead Facial Plastic Surgeon at New Image Plastic Surgery in Scottsdale, Arizona. She believes that the goal of facial cosmetic surgery is to achieve a natural-looking balance and harmony while avoiding an “operated on” appearance. She works with her clients on a personal case-by-case basis, focusing on individualized care to determine what changes can be realistically expected while also educating her patients on options, both surgical and nonsurgical, that are available to achieve those results.
Dr. Henderson is certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. After completing her residency in otolaryngology, she elected to proceed with additional specialized training by completing a fellowship in facial plastic surgery to maximize her expertise. By limiting her practice to cosmetic procedures of the face and neck, including the ear, nose, eye and brow areas, she maintains this expertise by staying current with the latest techniques and continuing to advance her knowledge through ongoing educational courses.
Dr. Henderson has been a practicing facial plastic surgeon in the Scottsdale and Phoenix metropolitan area of Arizona since 1994. From the initial consultation, through the post-operative period, Dr. Henderson strives to maintain relationships with her patients that are based on open communication. She believes that her primary responsibility is to do her best to achieve each patient’s desired results. Through compassion and empathy, she is available to help her patients through the initial decision to proceed, as well as through the anxiety that may occur surrounding a procedure.
Dr. Henderson offers an in-office surgical suite which is fully accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Healthcare.

FAQs

“As the final stage of breast reconstruction, nipple-areola complex reconstruction and tattooing help achieve a natural aesthetic and symmetric result.” Once you are 4 months post all reconstructive surgeries, and 6 months post radiation and chemotherapy, you are then able to pursue this treatment. If you are not sure, have your doctor write you a prescription and include your diagnosis code on this which will help you for insurance reimbursement.
Most states require insurance to cover all reconstructive procedures. When you provide our office with your insurance information, we will provide you with what is called a “Superbill”, this will contain the procedure code. Have your doctor provide you with your diagnosis code and we can put all this information on your superbill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
“Taking care to achieve a pigmented color match, and maintaining nipple projection, can profoundly enhance patient satisfaction and aesthetic appearance of the breast as a whole.” You will be wearing a disposable gown, experience the drawing process as well as the color selection. You will be allowed to hold a mirror and watch if you wish, or just be shown the progress occasionally. This is your session and it’s up to you how it goes.
If you are not sure, then you need to book an in-person consultation. This is a very emotional step, and your technician will evaluate your readiness for the procedure and guide you to your next steps.
If you are confident and emotionally stable for this procedure and have been post chemo or radiation for at least 6 months, and post surgeries 4 months, you may consult with us through your private secure HIPPA portal and send photos for more information. This will only be seen by Sherry and her assistant.
If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation, and have a strong desire for treatment, you may obtain a doctor’s prescription approval for treatment. You will need to have an in-person consultation for your technician to agree to proceed also.
The session from start to finish can be 2 hours for uni-lateral and 2.5 hours for bi-lateral.
The treated area will appear darker immediately after but will still look great. This is mainly due to any weeping liquids to the wound. The color will heal approximately 40% lighter than when you leave. You will be sent home with protective dressings and special all natural healing balms. You will keep the area dry for 7-10 days during the healing process while applying the healing balm 2 times per day. You will want to wear loose clothing for the first 24 hours. It may feel like a small sun burn or not feel much of anything at all. Light scabbing and peeling may occur.
Many clients have lost much of the sensation to the area due to the surgeries. If needed topical anesthetic will be applied and you will be kept comfortable during the procedure. Areas, where scars are present, may be more sensitive than other areas.
Scars that have pink tones can be treated with other methods such as IPL (intense pulsed light), and other areas that are lacking color can have skin tone color added. However, once the areola tattoo is complete, clients find that they no longer notice these other areas and choose to leave them to fade out naturally on their own.
Since the skin in this area is not exposed to much sunlight, the tattoo can last very well for years. Since it is an emotional event in and of itself, some clients do not choose to have touch-ups very often. Some come 4-5 years later for a color boost. It is a very personal decision.
